Victorian Oval
Description
This is the Ineedspex second bestselling frame after the “half-moon” glasses. We have copied the design from an original Edwardian/Victorian shape.
TOO SMALL FOR VARIFOCAL LENSES.
We have kept it as close to the original period frame as possible.
The “Victorian Oval” is a very versatile frame and is often used in historical settings for guides in stately homes also guides wearing period costumes in folk museums as far apart as Ireland and Holland. Apparently The Victorian Oval was seen at the Battle of Waterloo re-enactment!
This frame is also a great favourite with the younger generation even if they don’t need a prescription, as they customise the “Victorian Oval Frame” by colour tinting the lenses – perfect for music festivals, clubs and parties. Pink, blue and green are the most popular colours at the moment but, we can match almost any colour tint needed.
Due to the authentic period design of The Victorian Oval, this frame has been adopted by members of a Regency Demonstration Dance troupe and as we offer a re-glazing service we were very happy to re-glaze two pairs of genuine historic frames for them as well. We also provide a “re-glaze” service for your own modern and vintage spectacles.
The Victorian Oval, because of its size, weight and design is “held” onto the head by pressure rather than by the traditional “hockey-tips” behind the ears. This prompted one customer on the south island in New Zealand to use them under his motor-cycle crash helmet! This we did not recommend! The” Ineedspex Half Moon” is designed as a half eye unlike the Victorian Oval which is larger but can be perched lower on your nose to allow you to look over the rim if needed.
In our Vintage/Retro section, we do have several “one-off” genuine Victorian frames, mainly with curl tips as well as our new Victorian Octagonal Frame.
