What is Pupillary Distance
Your Pupillary distance or PD is the distance between the centre of one pupil to the other.
Why Is your PD important
It is important to fit the lenses into your glasses with the optical centre of the lens right in front of your pupil. If this is not done, you may get eye strain and not be able to see clearly.
How to measure your PD
Ideally you need to get a friend to help you. It is important to be the same height as the person you are measuring, sitting usually works best and to be directly opposite them. Have them look at an object more than 5 meters away, Have a rigid ruler that measures in mm, put the 0mm in the middle of one pupil then measure to the other. Best to do this a number of times. An average adult will be between 60mm and 68mm. This gives you your distance PD. As we read, our eyes converge inwards so to get your reading PD subtract 3mm from your distance.
